Wallace is seeking an Accounting Manager to partner with our Director of Finance in leading the organization's accounting operations, financial reporting, grant compliance, and audit activities. This is an opportunity to play a key role behind the scenes, ensuring the financial health and sustainability of a nonprofit Federally Qualified Health Center that has served the Portland community for more than 40 years.  

Key Details 

Title: Accounting Manager 

Compensation: $110,000-$115,000 annually, DOE 

Status: Full-Time, Exempt 

Reports To: Director of Finance 

Location: Portland, Oregon

What You'll Do 

  • Oversee day-to-day accounting functions and maintain the general ledger in accordance with GAAP. 
  • Lead month-end and year-end close processes. 
  • Prepare monthly financial statements and reporting for leadership and Board presentations. 
  • Manage grant tracking, financial reporting, compliance, and documentation. 
  • Support annual audits and coordinate with external auditors. 
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and regulatory reporting requirements. 
  • Partner with the Director of Finance on operational and capital budgeting activities. 
  • Analyze financial data and provide recommendations that improve organizational effectiveness. 
  • Maintain and strengthen accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls. 
  • Serve as backup for payroll processing and oversee payroll approvals. 
  • Supervise accounting team members, including Payroll and AP functions. 
  • Develop and maintain reporting tools and financial analyses using Excel. 
  • Support continuous quality improvement initiatives across the organization.  

 

What We're Looking For 

This role is ideal for an experienced accounting leader who enjoys balancing technical expertise with collaboration and service. The successful candidate will be detail-oriented, analytical, and committed to supporting a mission-driven organization through sound financial stewardship. 


Required Qualifications 

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field. 
  • 3-5 years of progressive accounting experience. 
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and accrual accounting
  • Advanced Excel skills. 
  • Experience with payroll administration. 
  • Experience using accounting software systems. 
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills. 
  • Strong communication and leadership abilities. 
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities while meeting deadlines.  

 

Preferred Qualifications 

  • CPA designation or Master's degree. 
  • Sage Intacct experience. 
  • ADP payroll experience. 
  • Experience in healthcare, nonprofit, community health, or FQHC environments. 
  • Revenue cycle management experience.
