Position Title:                      Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner

Wallace is seeking a psychiatric nurse practitioner to join our care team using the Collaborative Care Model of integrating mental health services with primary care. The psychiatric nurse practitioner will provide psychiatric evaluation and medication management for Wallace patients in an outpatient setting. Our patients may have chemical dependency, emotional or behavioral disturbance and/or other psychiatric diagnoses.

Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner

  • Provides psychiatric evaluation for patients, including gathering and maintaining patient information and records (including social and medical history obtained from patients, relatives, and other professionals); analyzes and evaluates patient data and test findings to diagnose nature and extent of mental disorder
  • Reviews and evaluates treatment procedures and outcomes of other psychiatrists and medical professionals
  • Provides information and education about pharmacological factors in the treatment of and service of clients to other agency staff and the general public as necessary
  • Provides ongoing monitoring and management of medication, including monitoring for side effects and therapeutic drug levels
  • Consults with Primary Care Providers, social workers, psychologists, psychiatrists, and treatment team when indicated
  • Maintains chart notes in electronic health record system within 24 hours of patient care
  • Provides medical supervision of client treatment plans, including review and signature
  • Advises and informs guardians, relatives, and significant others of patients’ conditions and treatment
  • Checks email and voicemail throughout the day when working and responds as appropriate
  • Continually increases level of cultural sensitivity, awareness, and competency
  • Teaches, takes continuing education classes, and attends conferences and seminars to increase understanding of mental, emotional, and behavioral states and disorders
  • Participates in regular individual and team meetings with supervisor
  • Attends informational and clinical meetings, which may include all staff and team meetings
  • Participates in consultation with other staff and required trainings


  • Provides personal assistance, medical attention, emotional support, or other personal care to clients
  • Observes, receives, and otherwise obtains information from all relevant sources
  • Analyzes information and evaluates results to choose the best solution and solve problems
  • Stays technically up-to-date and applies new knowledge to job
  • Develops constructive and cooperative working relationships with others, maintaining them over time
  • Provides information to supervisors and coworkers by phone, email, or in person
  • Identifies information by categorizing, estimating, recognizing differences or similarities, and detecting changes in circumstances or events
  • Translates or explains what information means and how it can be used


  • Master’s degree in Mental Health Nursing with Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) license and prescriptive privileges
  • National Certification allowing Medicare billing
  • Current CPR/BLS/ACLS certification
  • Good computer skills, including functional knowledge of Microsoft Outlook and Word; ability to master proprietary software, including electronic health record system
  • Demonstrates effective communication skills and maintains a cooperative working relationship with others in a culturally diverse environment

  • Demonstrates knowledge of the following:
    • Medicine (information and techniques needed to diagnose and treat injuries, diseases, and deformities as they relate to a client’s mental health, including symptoms, treatment alternatives, drug properties and interactions, and preventive healthcare measures)
    • Therapy and counseling (principles, methods, and procedures for counseling and guidance, diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of physical and mental dysfunctions; golden thread of treatment from intake to discharge; applications of evidence-based practices appropriate to client population)
    • Psychology (human behavior and performance; individual differences in ability, personality, interests; learning and motivation; research methods; assessment and treatment of behavioral and affective disorders)
    • English language (structure and content, including meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar)
    • Customer and personal service (assessing needs, meeting quality standards for services, evaluating patient satisfaction)
    • Law and government (relevant laws, legal codes, court procedures, precedents, regulations, executive orders, and agency rules)
    • Sociology and anthropology (basic knowledge of group behavior and dynamics, societal trends and influences, ethnicity, cultures, and their history and origins)

Duties are performed primarily in an office and clinic environment. Some evenings or weekend hours may be required. Travel between work sites may be required.
